Update: Sparks of Courage Projects

At Community Builders Youth Leadership, we are proud to be working in schools across Ontario to support young people in building their skills as confident and empathetic leaders.

Through our Sparks of Courage Projects, based on our award-winning, multi-year programming, young leaders in Manitoulin Island, North Shore, Toronto and Grand River Regions are learning how to courageously stand up to address social issues such as racism, sexism, bullying and discrimination in their schools and communities.

But don't just take our word for it, here is what a student in Toronto's Africentric Alternative School shared about the leadership skills they learned with Community Builders:

"When I used my leadership skills at first I was scared, and then I felt happy. I used my leadership skills when one of my classmates was getting bullied. As a leader, I help people learn about loving themselves... These ideas and skills can change the whole world."

Here's a snapshot of the work we are doing across the province:

Mobilizing Leadership in Grand River and Toronto

With the assistance of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Community Builders is working with youth leaders in Toronto and Grand River Regions over three years to support young people to build inclusive and caring schools. This fall, teams of students came together to develop their ally and leadership skills. In the winter and spring they will be leading Cross-generational Dialogues in nine communities.

Building Bridges & Combating Racism on Manitoulin Island and North Shore

Sagamok First Nation, M’Chigeeng First Nation, Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation and Little Current Public School have partnered with Community Builders to bring Sparks of Courage to northern Ontario. Through a grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage, this two-year project aims to support the resilience and strength of young people in the region.

We are grateful for the financial support of the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, which has allowed us to bring Sparks of Courage Projects to diverse communities across the province. However, we rely on the generosity of individuals such as you to sustain this important work.
